OUR dad always said the Edwards' hailed from the Arbroath area. This has proved to be the case and so far, most of the Edwards’ in our line have populated the East coast of Scotland. From St Cyrus, our branch of the family have gradually migrated northwards to the city we know as home, Aberdeen. William Humphrey Edwards (dad) was born in Aberdeen on 3rd August 1917. He was brought up in the West North Street area of Aberdeen with brothers Johnny, George and Jim and sisters Beldie and Nessie. He went to Hanover Street and Frederick Street Schools. A baker, he married mum before being shipped off to North Africa for his National Service during WW2. His troop ship had to sail all the way down West Africa, round the Cape and back up the East coast. He mentioned Tobruk, Benghazi and El Alamein and some of the places he was stationed.
Dad worked for many years at Sunblest Bakeries in Northfield. He passed away in February 1991. |
