A must visit site. www.talkingscot.com A meeting place for people interested in Scottish genealogy, history and culture. www.nationalarchives.gov.uk The United Kingdom's official government archive. www.anesfhs.org.uk Aberdeen and North East Family History Society. Has a searchable online Memorial Inscriptions database of local parishes. www.caithness.org Caithness community website with an extremely active and helpful discussion board for finding our northerly ancestors! http://bayanne.info/Shetland/ Fantastic wealth of information, genealogical and otherwise for those with Shetland roots. Well worth a visit. General www.genesreunited.co.uk Extremely useful site for making new contacts and building your family tree. www.ancestry.co.uk Good place to start for family in other parts of the UK and beyond. www.familysearch.org Billions of free family tree, family history, ancestry and census records. www.cyndislist.com More genealogical lists than I could ever hope to list here! Emigration www.ellisisland.org The starting point for finding any ancestors who may have entered the United States through Ellis Island. Extremely useful, searchable website. www.theshipslist.com Large and valuable site for passenger lists, ship photos, shipwrecks etc. all over the world. Newspapers and Archives www.newspaperarchive.com Mostly American, but you can also to find articles from UK, Canada and more. www.footnote.com Another gem. Again mostly US based, but a huge online archive of historical documents. Easy to use searchable database. |
