THE Reid name in our family arrived in Aberdeen via the Orkney island of Shapinsay.

The two people above right, are Angus Edward Reid and his sister Agnes. Angus is also pictured with the Aberdeen Corporation Transport Football team. Born 26 July 1935, he worked in Aberdeen Combworks on Hutcheon Street, Aberdeen Corporation Transport and latterly Hall Russell Shipyard. H e also did his military service during the Suez Crisis and was stationed in Cyprus.

His father was Albert Edward Stuart Reid, born 22 December 1901 in Aberdeen). He was a barman in the city, was married to Agnes Hacket and between them they had nine of a family.

Albert's father was John Harcus Reid, who was born 26 February, 1859 on the Orkney island of Shapinsay. In the 1861 Census he can be found with his parents at Hillside Croft on the island. On the 1881 Census however, it seems he had become a Farm Servant at Auchmull, Edzell, near Forfar. By 1891 he was married to Elizabeth Wood, from Hill of Keir, Belhelvie, near Aberdeen and was living with her daughter Georgina, and their children Nora Jane and James. He died aged 59 in Aberdeen.

John Harcus Reid's parents were William Reid, a line fisherman, born 20 November 1831 in Eday, and his wife Jessie Harcus. He died at the young age of 33, leaving his wife to manage the croft at Hillside.

His parents were William and Janet Reid.
